Maldives at the Fourth cycle of UPR's prriodic review
The report on the Maldives, prepared during the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), has been formally adopted, outlining 284 recommendations from 104 participating states.
The recommendations span a wide range of human rights priorities, including strengthening social protection systems, empowering women and children, improving community care, combating human trafficking, addressing climate change impacts, and ensuring inclusive participation in national development planning.
The Maldives will indicate at the next session of the Human Rights Council which recommendations it accepts. Only accepted recommendations must be implemented. According to the Attorney General’s Office, the decision-making process will involve consultations with relevant authorities through the National Mechanism for Implementation, Reporting and Follow-up, taking into account the country’s Constitution, existing laws, and Islamic principles.
The Attorney General’s Office expressed its appreciation to the National Mechanism and state institutions for their cooperation in successfully completing the fourth UPR cycle.
