Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has called hybrid weapons and strategies a growing national security threat. Speaking at the Huravee Day ceremony on Wednesday evening, he urged the youth to stay vigilant and develop technical skills to counter these modern challenges.
The Vice President warned that hybrid tactics, including intellectual and cyber warfare, have far reaching consequences. He explained that such methods aim to destabilise nations by undermining social cohesion, weakening economic stability, and eroding trust among citizens. These prolonged assaults, he noted, could threaten national unity and harm the social fabric of the Maldives.
He called on citizens to meet these challenges with determination and resilience, advocating for a combination of courage and technical knowledge. He stressed the importance of mastering contemporary skills to protect the nation’s interests and ensure its development, urging young people to take an active role in these efforts.
In his address, the Vice President invoked the bravery of historical figures such as Dhonban’daarain, encouraging the youth to draw inspiration from their sacrifices. He urged citizens to support government initiatives designed to equip them with the skills necessary to advance national progress.
As technology and artificial intelligence evolve at a rapid pace, the Vice President stressed the need to strengthen cybersecurity. He highlighted ongoing efforts to train individuals in identifying cyber threats and combating disinformation, noting these initiatives are among the government’s top priorities.
Praising President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s leadership, the Vice President commended his vision for addressing national security challenges. He acknowledged the President’s collaborative approach with friendly nations, stakeholders, and national institutions to bolster the country’s defense capabilities. Additionally, he highlighted initiatives to enhance military readiness, improve internal security, and safeguard individual freedoms.
Beyond security, the Vice President applauded the Administration’s broader efforts in public health, social security, and nation-building, which have elevated the Maldives’ international standing and strengthened its national pride.
Concluding his speech, the Vice President offered prayers for Allah Almighty’s mercy on national heroes who sacrificed their lives for the Maldives. He expressed hope for continued success and resilience as the nation confronts the challenges of the modern era
