President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a total of four parking buildings will be constructed in the Greater Malé area to ease long-standing congestion and parking challenges.

Speaking to residents of Henveiru on Sunday night, the President said road conditions remain the most severe issue in the region after housing. To address parking shortages, he said two parking buildings will be developed in Malé and one each in Villimalé and Hulhumalé under India’s Line of Credit.

The President also outlined upcoming road construction works, noting that the Government has decided to launch a major project with assistance from China to redevelop all roads in Malé.

In addition, President Dr Muizzu said the Government plans to rebuild the main markets in Malé. He stated that the local market site will be redeveloped into a mixed-use market featuring a modern fish market and a dedicated fruit and vegetable market. The existing fish market site, he added, will include an office building for the fishing industry.
