Speed breakers installed across Hulhumalé have been removed following widespread public concerns about their impact on daily travel.

Hulhumalé residents raised complaints through social media and community meetings, noting that the height and thickness of the breakers caused discomfort and could even result in physical pain. The issue was also discussed with Malé City residents, during the community meetings with Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The speed breakers were installed in Phase 1 and Phase 2 of Hulhumalé last September as part of the Housing Development Corporation’s (HDC) efforts to reduce road accidents. More than 30 breakers were placed with the aim of improving road safety.

HDC has been working to enhance public safety through various measures, including adjustments to traffic flow. These plans involve creating roundabouts in busy areas and converting certain roads into one-way routes to ease congestion.
