Masjid al-Noor, Shaviyani Foakaidhoo --

A newly developed mosque in Shaviyani Foakaidhoo has been officially opened to the public.

The inauguration was carried out by the Minister of State for Islamic Affairs, Uz Abdul Azeez Jamaal Aboobakur, together with Ahmed Naveen Hussain, son of the late Hussain Waheed.

The mosque, named Masjid al-Noor, was built through the personal expenditure of Hussain Waheed (known locally as Foakaidhoo Waheed), who passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer. His contribution has been widely recognised as a lasting gift to the community.

Masjid al-Noor can accommodate up to 400 worshippers, offering a spacious and serene environment for prayer. Following the opening ceremony, the Friday sermon was delivered by Sheikh Ahmed Sameer, a respected religious scholar from Foakaidhoo.

The new mosque is expected to play an important role in supporting the island’s religious life and serving the needs of its growing community.
