The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced a major project to upgrade and repair Hulhumalé roads.
Valued at MVR 91.8 million, the project follows an agreement formalised on 3 December between HDC and Rotime Engineering and Technology Co. Ltd.
According to HDC, 50 per cent of the project cost will be settled over the course of one year, while the remaining 50 per cent will be paid over a six-year period beginning in 2027.
The corporation outlined the scope of the roadworks in a statement. A total of 19,001 square metres will be newly asphalted, covering five roads in Hulhumalé Phase 1 as well as the road near the Vinares Flats in Phase 2. In addition, 8,012 square metres of damaged road surface across both phases will be repaired and re-asphalted.
HDC stated that the project aims to ensure a safer and more reliable transport system for Hulhumalé residents. The corporation emphasised the need to restore deteriorated roads in already populated areas and to improve access by rehabilitating damaged routes.
Rotime Engineering, a Chinese company, is preparing to mobilise the necessary equipment and machinery shortly. The firm expressed confidence that the work can be completed in the shortest possible time, ultimately easing transport for those living in Hulhumalé.
