Several major development initiatives were launched in Raa Dhuvaafaru on Saturday as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to the island, spanning harbour development, policing, renewable energy and healthcare expansion.

Practical works for the Dhuvaafaru Harbour Extension project were commenced by Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib. The project is expected to enhance harbour capacity and improve safety and accessibility for vessels serving the island.

As part of efforts to decentralise essential services, the groundbreaking ceremony for a new police station in Raa Dhuvaafaru was initiated by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan.

In addition, a renewable energy project titled “Irun Hakatha” was launched by Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar. The initiative forms part of the Government’s target to generate 33 per cent of electricity from renewable energy sources by 2028. The project also aims to reduce household electricity costs while promoting environmental sustainability. As part of the launch, a dedicated Solar Energy portal was also inaugurated.

Further developments in the health sector were announced with the launch of a theatre complex project for the expansion of the Dhuvaafaru Health Centre. Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim inaugurated the initiative, which forms part of plans to upgrade the facility and transform it into a hospital offering expanded medical services.
