Raa Maakurathu Police Station has been completed and officially opened on Friday, following the groundbreaking ceremony held earlier this year.
The police station was inaugurated by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan and Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen during a ceremony held on the island.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Ihusaan said the completion of the facility reflects President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s initiative to expand police services nationwide. He also noted that work is currently underway to develop the infrastructure and facilities required to strengthen police services.
The Minister stated that more than 140 police infrastructure projects are planned for completion and inauguration within the next two and a half years, as part of the Government’s efforts to enhance public safety and decentralise essential services.
Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen said the Maakurathu Police Station was completed within a short period following the groundbreaking ceremony, highlighting the priority given to strengthening the police service. He attributed the swift completion of the project to the President’s commitment to providing the police with the necessary facilities and resources.
Permanent police presence has now been established across all islands, with police stations being constructed in islands that previously did not have dedicated facilities.
