The President made the remarks during the first in a series of meetings with the business community, with the inaugural session dedicated to small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

After listening to views and concerns raised by business representatives, the President said he had considered submissions made during the meeting and that the Government would work to identify appropriate solutions.

Among the key issues raised were foreign worker quota fees applicable to SMEs. Addressing the matter, the President said discussions would be held with relevant authorities, adding that measures would be taken to support of SMEs. He said a decision on the matter would be finalised and announced soon.

Business representatives also raised concerns regarding the current treatment of four-wheelers used for corporate purposes. In response, the President said steps would be taken to review the issue. He further announced that demurrage-free periods would be extended and that clearance operations would be expanded to operate 24 hours.

The President also assured that issues affecting operations at the airport and seaport would be resolved. In addition, he confirmed that Bank of Maldives (BML) ATM services will be introduced in Thilafushi by January, responding to a request raised by the business community.

The meeting forms part of the President’s initiative to engage directly with businesses and address operational challenges through consultation and policy action.
