SriLankan Airlines has commenced operations from the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA).
A special ceremony was held to mark the start of services, attended by the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the Maldives, Mohamed Rizvi Hassen, along with SriLankan Airlines Country Manager Nayomi Tennakoon and senior officials from Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
SriLankan Airlines’ check-in counters at Terminal 1 were officially opened for departing passengers, while arriving passengers on the airline’s first flight to the terminal were welcomed with cultural performances. The airline becomes the second Sri Lankan carrier to operate from the new terminal.
SriLankan Airlines has operated flights to the Maldives since 1 September 1979. Terminal 1 currently serves 33 airlines, as MACL continues efforts to provide high-quality services to all carriers operating at VIA.
