BML, Visit Maldives and UnionPay partner on digital payments and tourism promotion

Bank of Maldives (BML), Visit Maldives and UnionPay have signed an agreement to collaborate on a joint marketing initiative aimed at enhancing digital payment experiences and supporting tourism promotion efforts.

Under the partnership, the three parties will jointly promote the Maldives as a travel destination among UnionPay cardholders through coordinated marketing campaigns. The collaboration will focus on initiatives highlighting the country’s tourism offerings, with the aim of attracting more visitors.

As part of the agreement, BML has also been appointed as the settlement agent bank for UnionPay transactions in the Maldives, enabling local settlement in Maldivian rufiyaa. The arrangement is expected to enahnce cooperation, including opportunities related to UnionPay card issuance.

BML currently accepts UnionPay cards through its point-of-sale terminals and merchant portal.

In a related development, BML signed two additional agreements on Tuesday with Weixin Pay and Visit Maldives Corporation. These agreements are aimed at expanding digital payment options and supporting tourism-related initiatives in the Maldives.
