The State collected MVR 1.8 billion in Airport Development Fees by November 11 this year, according to figures released by the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

Data published in the Ministry’s weekly Fiscal Development report shows that revenue from Airport Development Fees rose by 64 per cent from the MVR 1 billion collected during the corresponding period in 2024. During the same period this year, the state also collected MVR 1.7 billion in departure tax, representing a 66 per cent increase from the MVR 1 billion recorded last year.

Combined revenue from airport-related taxes and fees, including Airport Development Fees and departure tax, totalled MVR 3.5 billion by mid-November. This reflects a 75 per cent increase compared to the MVR 2 billion collected during the same period last year.

Passengers departing from Maldivian airports are subject to two main charges: departure tax and Airport Development Fees. However, exemptions apply in certain cases. Departure tax exemptions include passengers with diplomatic immunity, transit passengers, and children under the age of two, while direct transit passengers and individuals with diplomatic immunity are also exempt from Airport Development Fees.
