The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that land reclamation works at Hulhumalé Phase III have reached 63 per cent completion.

In its latest update, the company said a total of 40 hectares out of the planned 63 hectares have now been reclaimed.

Land reclamation for Hulhumalé Phase III development began in October 2023, but progress was affected by several temporary stoppages. Works resumed on 10 November 2025 and have since gathered pace following the deployment of additional heavy machinery.

To accelerate progress, the Government has mobilised two large dredgers, each capable of handling up to 22,000 cubic metres of sand per cycle. Among them is a trailing suction hopper dredger operated by Boskalis, which began reclamation operations at the site on 28 November.

Once reclamation works at Hulhumalé Phase III are completed, the Government plans to begin allocating land plots in the newly reclaimed area.

After the completion of Phase III, the large dredgers currently engaged in the project will be redeployed for land reclamation works in Gulhifalhu. The Government is continuing multiple reclamation projects across the Greater Malé Region as part of its efforts to address long-standing housing challenges.

At present, land reclamation is ongoing in Rasmalé and Hulhumalé Phase III, while additional projects are planned for Giraavaru Falhu, Uthuru Thila Falhu, and Gulhifalhu in the near future to permanently address housing needs in the Greater Malé Region.
