The nisab, or minimum wealth threshold for Zakat al-Mal in the Maldives, has been revised to MVR 19,527.90 with effect from 21 December 2025.
The adjustment reflects movements in the global silver market, with the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) reporting the price of silver at MVR 32.82 per gram. The nisab was previously set at MVR 11,191.95 in August, meaning the latest revision represents an increase of 74.5 per cent.
Zakat al-Mal, one of the five pillars of Islam, requires eligible Muslims to give a portion of their accumulated wealth each year to those entitled to receive it. Individuals whose wealth meets or exceeds the nisab and remains above the threshold for a full lunar year are required to pay 2.5 per cent of that wealth annually as zakat.
