Laboratory services have been introduced at the Gaafu Dhaalu Hoan’dedhdhoo Health Centre.

The service was officially launched during a ceremony held at the health centre, which was inaugurated by Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim. Following the inauguration, the Minister inspected the facility and met with staff members of the centre.

Speaking to MMTV, the Minister said the Government plans to establish fully equipped laboratory services in 76 islands as part of a nationwide initiative to strengthen island-level healthcare. He added that the long-term goal is to introduce laboratory services across all islands in the Maldives, with implementation currently underway in multiple locations simultaneously.

The Government has placed special priority on improving healthcare services nationwide in order to reduce the need for residents to travel to Malé or overseas to access quality medical care. The 2026 State Budget prioritises the development of health sector initiatives, reflecting the Government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and service delivery nationwide.
