President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that listening to the voices of young people today is key to building a brighter future for the country, describing youth as essential partners in national development.

The President made the remarks while speaking at the Youth Coffee with President session held during the National Youth Conference. He said young people play a critical role not only in shaping the present, but also in defining the country’s future.

“The youth are the most important partners in the development of the country, today and especially tomorrow. Tomorrow can be brightened by listening to the voice of the youth today. That is what I believe in,” he said.

President Dr Muizzu said every idea shared by young people is important to him, adding that he was pleased to engage directly with youth at the event. He stressed that meaningful youth participation is vital when the Government makes decisions, noting that while existing mechanisms remain limited, efforts are underway to strengthen youth engagement frameworks.

He said the Youth Advisory Board was established to seek the views and consultations of young people, emphasising his belief that youth participation in decision making at all levels must be constructive, sustainable, and meaningful.

The President added that involving young people at every level of decision making is essential to achieving sustainable and meaningful development.

During the session, President Dr Muizzu listened to concerns raised by participants. Some youth highlighted that the Youth Parliament is no longer functioning. In response, the President said he would look into the matter and work towards addressing the concerns raised by young people at the meeting.
