President Dr Muizzu at the National Youth Conference 2025 --

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that PayPal services will be available in the Maldives by the end of January, enhancing international access for the country’s digital and creative economy.

He made the remarks while addressing the Youth Coffee with President session held last night as part of the National Youth Conference 2025, noting that improving global accessibility for creative professionals and digital entrepreneurs is a key priority of his manifesto.

The President said extensive work has been carried out and that preparations are now at the final stage, expressing confidence that full access to PayPal would be enabled by the end of January. He noted that the platform would open significant opportunities for Maldivians seeking to engage with international markets.

He also stated that Bank of Maldives' Swipe will be opened for testing within the month, adding that further economic and financial opportunities are expected to follow. The President emphasised that the country’s wider transformation would be achieved through the active participation and support of young people.

PayPal services are being introduced in the Maldives through Ooredoo Fintech, which has been officially issued an Inward Remittance Licence by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

Commenting on the development, Khalid Al Hammadi, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Ooredoo Fintech Maldives, said the company was proud to facilitate the launch of PayPal services in the Maldives. He attributed the achievement to strong support from the Government.

Khalid highlighted the initiatives undertaken under President Dr Muizzu’s Administration and said Ooredoo would continue to collaborate with stakeholders to support efforts to enhance economic productivity, particularly within the digital and creative sectors.
