Two arrested after over 40 kg of hashish oil found in imported goods

Two men have been arrested in connection with the discovery of a large quantity of drugs concealed in imported goods during a Customs inspection on 25 December.

Police said the suspects, Ahmed Ali, 47, and Mohamed Aadhil, 57, were arrested on 26 and 27 December respectively following the seizure. Both men were produced before court and remanded in custody for five days.

According to authorities, the seized drugs consisted of more than 40 kilograms of hashish oil, with an estimated street value exceeding MVR 30 million.

Investigations revealed that the drugs had been concealed in chocolate syrup bottles, with each bottle containing between 1.10 millilitres and 1.40 millilitres of hashish oil.

The case was uncovered during a search of imported goods carried out by Customs, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
