A total of 7,803 locations have been inspected and 29 people arrested so far under Operation Riveli, the annual police operation conducted during the year-end holiday period.

Statistics shared by the Maldives Police Service on X on Monday show that checks were carried out between 24 and 28 December as part of heightened enforcement measures. During this period, 3,845 individuals were stopped and questioned.

The figures indicate that in Malé City, 1,598 people were questioned, leading to 26 arrests, including 95 foreign nationals. In Hulhumalé, 2,247 people were questioned, resulting in three arrests, while 46 foreign nationals were taken into custody.

The statistics further show that 1,954 vehicles were checked and 397 fines were issued. An additional 1,879 vehicle inspections resulted in 28 more fines.

Police statistics show that criminal activity typically increases during the year-end holiday season, prompting the annual implementation of Operation Riveli. The operation focuses on vehicle inspections, preventing drug and alcohol related offences, and protecting public property.

Operation Riveli began at 3:00 pm on 24 December and is scheduled to continue until 2 January, with police maintaining an increased presence across key areas to ensure public safety.
