500 flats will be allocated to those who did not receive their units under the Veshifahi Malé and Hiyaa housing programmes, according to the guidelines gazetted under the Administration’s Housing for All policy.

The guidelines state that flat allocation will prioritise individuals who were previously listed as recipients but were not handed units in accordance with the documents by the former administrations. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has previously stated that he will not break the pledge to provide flats to those who lost their entitlement.

According to the policy, a total of 4,000 flats have been allocated for Malé residents across various categories. These include 100 flats for single mothers and single fathers with children under 18, and 100 flats for persons with disabilities. A further 250 flats are designated for youth, 50 flats for taxi drivers registered in Malé City, and 200 flats for employees in the tourism sector.

Sector-based allocations include 100 flats for judiciary employees in Malé, 100 flats for fishermen, and 100 flats for police, MNDF, and corrections staff. The rules also allocate 200 flats for civil servants, in addition to 400 flats assigned to employees working in Government offices based in the capital.

The Government stated that these allocations are part of the Housing for All policy, which has now been formally gazetted. The rules for flat allocation and land allocation for Malé City residents were issued simultaneously as part of the same policy framework.
