Applications for housing units in Thaa Vilufushi,  and Baa Thulhaadhoo will open on January 11, according to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure.

The announcement confirms that 100 housing units in Vilufushi and Thulhaadhoo are completed, with submissions accepted through the Hiyaavehi Portal from 11 January until 11 April 2026.

The Ministry stated that the Vilufushi units are ready for occupation, with construction completed and utility services being established. Fenaka Corporation has been contracted to provide water and sewerage services to the development. The housing project was originally contracted in 2011 but was stalled due to several reasons.

In Thulhaadhoo, the handover of housing units has faced delays due to legal challenges and policy disputes. The units were initially set to be issued during the previous administration, but a court case regarding policy amendments halted the process. The Thulhaadhoo Magistrate Court ruled that policy changes were unlawful and instructed authorities to revert to the original guidelines. 

The Ministry has since taken over the full responsibility of issuing the units and stated that allocations will proceed under the revised guidelines once outstanding issues are finalised.
