The Ministry of Sports, Recreation and Fitness has set an ambitious vision of seeing Maldivians win gold medals on the international competitions.

Speaking during MMTV’s Bodu Khabaru Programme on Saturday night, Minister Abdulla Rafiu emphasised the importance of a long-term strategy to elevate the standard of Maldivian sports and athlete development.

To facilitate this vision, the Ministry has formed six specialised groups tasked with addressing critical areas needed to achieve these objectives. Minister Rafiu highlighted that the plan accounts for current resources and capabilities, breaking down the steps required to meet the Ministry's targets in the next coming years.

In early December, the Ministry unveiled an ambitious 20-year roadmap to promote sports development across three regions of the Maldives; the primary goal being to secure podium finishes and medals at the 2030 and 2034 Asian Games, while simultaneously training Maldivian athletes to compete for and win medals at the 2036 and 2040 Olympics.
