Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that it will conduct walk-in interviews on Saturday to recruit drivers for the Malé taxi line service.
MTCC will operate the taxi line under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. The company is recruiting both full-time and part-time drivers, with a total of 407 drivers required for the service. Of these, 122 positions are part-time, while the remaining 285 are full-time roles.
Applications for the driver positions are open until 17 January 2026. The walk-in interviews will be held on the same day at the Maafannu Bus Terminal, from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm. Interested candidates are required to bring a valid National ID card and a valid driving licence to the interview.
MTCC said priority will be given to applicants who are currently registered in the taxi driver registry maintained by the Ministry of Transport.
The taxi line service is being introduced by the Government to address difficulties faced by the public in accessing taxis and to provide a more reliable and convenient transport option. Responding to questions in Parliament last month, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen said the service is expected to be launched by January.
The Government-operated taxi line will use 100 per cent environmentally friendly electric vehicles. The fleet will include vehicles in three size categories and will operate 24 hours a day. The service will also be supported by a dedicated mobile application, similar to international ride-hailing platforms such as Uber and Grab.
