Work is underway to transfer pharmacies operated by the State Trading Organization (STO) to the newly established State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Limited, STO has said.

Speaking to State media, STO said it has decided to bring its pharmacy operations under the State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Limited, a 100 per cent Government-owned company. The transfer process has already commenced and will be carried out in several phases.

More than 190 pharmacies currently operated by the company will be transferred as part of the process. The relocation and transition of pharmacies are expected to be completed by 15 February.

The State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Limited was established by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on 9 September 2025 under the authority granted to the President by Section 15 of the Companies Act. The corporation was created with the objective of strengthening the national system for the procurement and supply of medicines, medical consumables and equipment across the Maldives.
