The Elections Commission of Maldives (EC) has announced that it received 779 complaints concerning the registry of eligible voters for the upcoming local council and women’s development committee elections scheduled for April.

The Commission confirmed that the complaints window, which opened on 7 January, closed on 18 January at 15:00hrs.

According to EC, most complaints are related to changes of address and residence, the inclusion of deceased persons, and the removal of names from the registry.

To strengthen transparency and accountability, the Commission has established the National Election Complaints Bureau, tasked with receiving and reviewing complaints related to the April elections. The bureau aims to provide an accessible mechanism for the public to submit grievances and ensure they are addressed promptly.

The Commission stated that complaints can be submitted via email, at Commission counters, or through designated focal points in cities, provinces, island councils, and abroad.
