The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has signed agreements to establish Islamic Centres, mosques and Quran centres in four islands as part of the efforts to expand religious education and awareness. Contracts have been awarded for Islamic centres in Lhaviyani Naifaru, Haa Alifu Ihavandhoo and Gaafu Alifu Villingili, each featuring mosques with capacities ranging from 700 to 1,000 worshippers, prayer spaces for both men and women, and facilities including classrooms, libraries and convention halls. In addition, a Quran centre comprising classrooms and office spaces will be developed in Villingili, while a 500-capacity mosque with educational facilities will be constructed in Kaafu Gulhi.

The Ministry stated that wider infrastructure development for the religious sector is ongoing, noting that 15 mosques are currently being completed and will be opened for prayers during Ramadan.
