Installation of additional lifts at Hiyaa towers is progressing, with work on Hiyaa Tower 8 now completed and operational.

The project follows a pledge made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to install two additional lifts in each Hiyaa flat tower. In line with this commitment, lift installation works commenced in April 2024.

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has stated that civil and structural works under the project have now been completed. As of the latest update, 86 per cent of the lifts have been installed, bringing overall project completion to 89 per cent.

Installation and commissioning works have been completed and put into operation at eight towers, from Tower 1 to Tower 8. Five additional towers are currently undergoing final testing, while work on the remaining towers is ongoing. The corporation added that all required equipment for the remaining works has already been received.

Once fully completed, the project will add a total of 32 new lifts across 16 Hiyaa towers. The new lifts are designed to improve accessibility and reduce congestion, with features that allow for patient and stretcher access, as well as floor numbers in Braille to support visually impaired residents.

Each Hiyaa tower houses approximately 400 apartments and nearly 2,000 residents. The project forms part of the Government’s efforts to enhance accessibility and improve living conditions for Hiyaa residents.
