The Huraa Island Council has announced the allocation of 25 plots from newly reclaimed land for guesthouse development, in a move aimed at boosting tourism and strengthening the island’s economy.

According to the Council’s announcement, eight plots have been reserved for Huraa residents, while the remaining 17 plots are open to the general public. Each plot measures 4,000 square feet and will be leased for a period of 50 years under the regulations of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment (MoTE).

Bidding documents for resident-only plots are priced at MVR 10,000, with submissions due by 11 February at 12:30 p.m. A pre-bid meeting for interested parties will be held on 5 February at 10:00 a.m. at the Council’s Huravee Wing. For the 17 plots open to the public, bidding documents are available at MVR 25,000, with the deadline set for 12 February at 12:30 p.m.

Huraa, located near the capital Malé, is already a popular tourist destination with numerous guesthouses. Officials say the new plots will expand tourism capacity, generate employment, and contribute to sustainable economic growth for the community.
