President extends condolences on passing of veteran public servant Ahmed Solih Ali Didi

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended condolences following the passing of Ahmed Solih Ali Didi, a veteran public servant widely recognised for his contributions to the development of Addu.
In a message shared on X, President Dr Muizzu conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family and the people of Addu, noting that Ali Didi dedicated decades of service to the Maldives. He highlighted Ali Didi’s tenure as a member of Parliament representing Addu and as Atoll Chief, describing his role in advancing the atoll’s development as significant.
The President also offered prayers for Almighty Allah’s mercy upon the deceased and for him to be granted eternal peace in paradise.
Ahmed Solih Ali Didi passed away at the age of 92. His funeral is scheduled to be held tonight after Isha prayers at Hithadhoo Mosque.
Born in Seenu Feydhoo, Ali Didi is regarded as one of the region’s most dedicated public servants. He served the Government for 45 years, beginning his career in 1964 and retiring in 2009.
During his career, he held several key positions, including Katheeb of Hithadhoo from 1964 to 1969, member of Parliament for Addu between 1968 and 1969, and Atoll Chief of Addu from 1971 to 1975. He also worked in managerial roles at Gan Airport, the State Trading Organization (STO) in Addu, and Dhiraagu in Hithadhoo, in addition to serving as a deputy manager in various capacities.
Beyond his public service, Ali Didi was recognised for his contributions to sports in Addu. He played a central role in establishing the ASA Club in 1968 and led the team to a runner-up finish in a national tournament. His efforts also contributed to nurturing young talent from Addu and promoting them at the national level.
Ali Didi was previously honoured by the Addu City Council in recognition of his contributions to community development.
