Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has announced that the Government’s planned taxi line service will be introduced in Villimalé with five vehicles.

He made the remarks during a ceremony held groundbreaking ceremony for 300 affordable housing units being developed in Villimalé by bank of Maldives (BML).

The Minister said the taxi line service in Villimalé will operate using five vehicles, noting that electric cars will be used as part of the initiative. He added that the service is expected to provide a more environmentally friendly and convenient transport option for residents.

“When the Government launches the Malé taxi line service, five taxis will also be deployed in Villimalé to provide this service to residents,” the Minister said.

The Government has decided to launch the taxi line service in the Greater Malé area next week, with a total of 150 vehicles to be used for the service.

Authorities stated that the service will be available 24 hours a day through a dedicated application, while a taxi hotline (1655) has also been introduced.

The operation of the taxi line service in the Malé area has been assigned to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The Government decided to establish the taxi line service in response to ongoing public concerns over the difficulty of obtaining taxis in the Malé area, with the aim of providing a more modern and reliable transport service for residents.
