Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has officially launched the Maldives National Logistics Service, aimed at strengthening the country’s supply chain and improving the movement of goods nationwide.

The service was inaugurated by Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer at the Marine Expo 2026 held at Hulhumalé Central Park.

According to MPL, the initiative is designed to integrate loading, warehousing and delivery operations into a single coordinated system, with the objective of improving efficiency, reducing delays in cargo movement and lowering overall logistics costs for businesses and consumers.

Speaking to State media, Minister Zameer said the Maldives requires more reliable and efficient logistics arrangements, noting that the new service is expected to ease operational burdens faced by businesses, particularly those dependent on imported equipment and supplies.

MPL stated that the service includes a domestic transshipment facility, allowing containers arriving at Malé Commercial Harbour to be transported directly to atoll ports. A commercial warehousing facility is also being developed in Thilafushi, alongside new procedures to improve the transfer of cargo from Malé harbour to Velana International Airport as part of efforts to strengthen sea-to-air cargo operations.

To further expand operational capacity, MPL is constructing a new landing craft, which is expected to become operational within eight months. The Government has stated that the aim is to consolidate these logistics services into a single national network by the end of the year, offering a comprehensive logistics solution across the country.

MPL added that the Maldives National Logistics Service has been established as a standalone service provider to support the expansion of its logistics operations. The company noted that operations under the Government’s logistics network, known as the ‘Anchor’ project, were transferred to MPL in December 2025 to ensure long-term sustainability of national logistics services.
