Presidential Address 2026: RTL ferry services to be fully launched nationwide this year

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry services will be expanded to the remaining eight atolls within the next six months, strengthening nationwide connectivity.

Delivering his Presidential Address 2026 at the opening sitting of the 20th People’s Majlis, the President noted that RTL services were successfully launched in three atolls last year and highlighted the Government’s commitment to completing coverage across all provinces this year.

Noting the importance of infrastructure, President stated that 14 harbour construction projects have already been completed, while agreements have been signed for 33 additional projects. He added that 102 projects are currently underway, with work on 17 more islands set to begin this year. In total, 118 harbour development projects are expected to be completed within the next 19 months, laying the foundation for the full rollout of RTL services.

The President stressed that upgrading island infrastructure is essential for the sustainability of the ferry network. He further revealed that the Government is establishing systems to repair, renovate, and maintain harbours and related facilities, ensuring long-term resilience and supporting sustainable development across the islands.

RTL services are divided into six operational zones, with services already active in four zones. The remaining Zone 3, Kaafu, Alifu Alifu, Alifu Dhaalu, Vaavu, and Zone 4 Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, Laamu, are scheduled to be covered within the next six months, completing the nationwide ferry network.
