Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have surpassed 300,000 in early 2026, reflecting continued growth in the sector.

Statistics show that as of 9 February 2026, a total of 303,488 visitors had arrived in the country, marking a 5.1 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.

The daily average for the year stands at 7,587 arrivals. February is recording a stronger pace than January, with a daily average of 8,744 so far, compared to 7,251 in January.

China remains the leading source market, accounting for 12.9 per cent of total arrivals. Russia follows with a 12.0 per cent share. Italy ranks third with 10.1 per cent, while the United Kingdom accounts for 9.2 per cent. China and Russia maintain positions similar to last year, while Italy has climbed from fifth place. The United Kingdom has slipped from third position compared to the same period in 2025.

In terms of entry points, Velana International Airport handled the majority of visitors, recording 299,764 arrivals. Maafaru International Airport received 1,012 arrivals, while Gan International Airport recorded 962.

Resorts continue to attract the largest share of tourists, accounting for 68 per cent of stays. Guesthouses follow at 27.1 per cent, while hotels account for 2.7 per cent and safari vessels 2.1 per cent.

Following a record year in 2025, the upward trend appears to be continuing. February has begun strongly and has historically been one of the peak months for tourist arrivals.
