First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has inaugurated a newly developed volleyball court in Dhaalu Meedhoo, marking the completion of a community sports facility aimed at expanding access to recreational infrastructure on the island.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu, senior Government officials, members of the Meedhoo Island Council, and residents of the island.
The project was implemented by the Road Development Corporation (RDC) under a Government contract. Construction works began on 2 December 2025 and were completed within the project timeframe.
Following the inauguration, a friendly volleyball match was held on the new court between two teams formed from youth of the island. The First Lady observed the match along with invited guests and community members.
The Government has previously stated that expanding sports infrastructure is part of a long-term strategy to encourage active lifestyles and reduce the prevalence of non-communicable diseases linked to sedentary behaviour and lifestyle-related health risks.
