The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has revealed that 98.4 per cent of registered tourism facilities in the Maldives are currently in operation.
Latest statistics show a total of 68,095 tourist beds are registered nationwide. Of these, 67,009 beds are actively in use to accommodate visitors.
Currently, 179 resorts, 911 guesthouses, 169 safari vessels and 16 hotels are operating across the Maldives. Resorts account for the largest share of bed capacity, with 44,807 beds. Guesthouses provide 16,171 beds, while safari vessels offer 3,433 beds. Hotels contribute a further 2,598 beds.
Tourist arrivals have also continued to grow alongside the high operational rate of facilities. So far this year, the Maldives has welcomed 312,343 tourists, marking a 5.6 per cent increase compared to the 295,762 arrivals recorded during the same period last year.
February, which has consistently been the strongest month for tourist arrivals in recent years, recorded 87,555 visitors this year. This represents an 8.2 per cent increase compared to February last year.
With February traditionally being the peak month for arrivals, further growth in visitor numbers is anticipated as the tourism sector maintains its upward trajectory.
