The national health insurance provider, Aasandha, has today signed agreements with three international hospitals to provide medical services under its national health insurance scheme.

The new partnerships include Burjeel Medical City in Abu Dhabi, UAE, along with World Medical Hospital and Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand.

Until now, Aasandha's overseas medical coverage has been limited to select hospitals in India and Sri Lanka. Today's agreements, signed by Aasandha's Managing Director Aminath Zeeniya, mark a significant expansion of the scheme's international healthcare network.

The expansion aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's commitment to enhance healthcare services for Maldivian citizens. Under these new agreements, Aasandha will begin referring patients to these facilities from January 15, 2025.

This development is part of the Government's broader initiative to reform and strengthen the Aasandha system. In addition to extending coverage to more countries, the ongoing reforms include the integration of several previously uncovered services and treatments into the scheme.
