State Trading Organisation (STO) has started offering fuel at STO rates in four atolls, as part of the Government’s initiative to provide affordable fuel to fishermen.

During his visit to K. Gaafaru, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that in addition to Hulhumalé Kanneli Jetty, fishermen in Lh. Felivaru, GA. Kooddoo, K. Himmafushi, and S. Hulhumeedhoo can purchase fuel at STO rates starting from December 10, 2024. STO has confirmed that fuel is currently available at these locations under the reduced rates.

STO is working to extend this initiative further, aiming to provide fuel at STO rates on at least one island in every atoll across the Maldives. This effort is being facilitated through the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources' Fahi Hakatha portal, ensuring streamlined access for fishermen.

The company highlighted its commitment to implementing this initiative in line with the Government’s policy to make fuel more accessible and affordable for fishermen. As part of its long-term strategy, STO plans to establish fuel storage facilities in all atolls by 2025, significantly enhancing accessibility and operational efficiency for the country’s fishing communities.
