The Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee has approved a recommendation to the Prosecutor General to conduct a criminal investigation and prosecute former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The investigation pertains to assets distributed to individuals by the Settlement Committee formed during the previous administration.

The Committee also called for investigations into two other members of the Settlement Committee including former Economic Minister and MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail, and former Minister at the President's Office Ali Siyam.

According to the Committee, individuals in high-ranking state positions were allegedly involved in the illegal misappropriation of public property. It has declared compensation agreements signed between 2019 and 2023 null and void. The Committee further instructed relevant authorities to recover the assets distributed under these agreements.

The Committee noted that the officials, while holding high offices, allegedly violated constitutional and legal duties by attempting to misappropriate public property and awarding it to undeserving parties.
