Maldives Zakat House has completed the distribution of Fitr Zakat for the Hijri year 1447 to all individuals registered in the Registry of Poor and Needy.

This year's distribution marks a historic milestone, with each eligible recipient receiving MVR 6,000, the highest amount of Fitr Zakat ever distributed per person in the Maldives. Among those who benefitted were 62 orphans classified as poor and eligible for Zakat.

The total amount collected as Fitr Zakat this year has also set a new record, surpassing MVR 14 million. Of this, MVR 13,896,000 was allocated for distribution to the poor and needy across the country.

To make the payment process as accessible as possible, Fitr Zakat was collected through seven online platforms this year. For those unable to pay digitally, a dedicated online portal was introduced to allow island councils to deposit Zakat funds collected in cash on behalf of residents. In the Greater Malé Area, payments were also accepted in cash and by cash card at the Islamic Centre Conference Hall. Zakat in the form of food grains was likewise accepted, with collection and distribution carried out accordingly.

The use of a fully digital system allowed Zakat funds to be monitored in real time, ensuring transparency, accountability, and the equitable distribution of aid to all registered recipients throughout the Maldives.
