North Henveiru MP Ahmed Aifan has accused opposition parties of attempting to secure control of local councils to undermine the government, while stating that candidates of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) are focused on serving the public.
Speaking to MMTV during a door-to-door campaign in the Central Henveiru constituency, MP Aifan said opposition-led councils are obstructing Government efforts instead of prioritising service delivery to residents. He added that councils should focus on addressing community issues and ensuring municipal services are delivered in accordance with the law.
MP Aifan noted that during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s council administration, efforts were made to work alongside the government rather than hinder its initiatives. However, he said the current situation reflects increased political interference in council operations, which he claimed is affecting service provision.
He further stated that PNC candidates are campaigning on improving access to basic services and resolving challenges faced by residents in both urban and island communities. MP Aifan said their approach is centred on service delivery rather than political confrontation.
