The Government has designated 1655 as the official hotline number for the upcoming taxi service, according to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The company announced that the hotline will be launched soon as part of preparations to introduce a structured taxi system in the Greater Malé Region.

The initiative forms part of efforts to address the shortage of taxis in Malé City, with services to be introduced in Malé, Hulhumalé and Velana International Airport during the initial phase. Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen previously stated that taxis will be brought in two batches from Thailand and China, covering three vehicle models. MTCC is also continuing recruitment for both full-time and part-time drivers, with additional walk-in interviews planned as preparations for the rollout progress.
