The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced 1655 as the official hotline for upcoming Government-run taxi service.

In a statement released Monday, the company confirmed that the hotline will be launched concurrently with the rollout of the service, which aims to address the persistent challenges residents face when securing transportation in the Greater Malé area.

Preparations for the fleet are currently in progress. Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen recently noted that the vehicles will be imported in two batches featuring three different models, sourced from Thailand and China. In its initial phase, the service will cover Malé, Hulhumalé, and Velana International Airport (VIA).

To meet operational demands, MTCC has initiated a recruitment drive for both full-time and part-time drivers. The company intends to hold additional walk-in interviews to ensure a sufficient workforce is in place by the time the vehicles arrive and the service officially commences.
