Work has commenced on the road development project in Gaafu Alifu Maamendhoo, with construction beginning on 24 March under the Road Development Corporation (RDC). The project, valued at MVR 138.67 million, was awarded to RDC in August 2023 and is scheduled for completion within 730 days. A special ceremony was held on the island to mark the start of works, attended by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, senior Government officials, and RDC representatives.

The project includes the asphalting of 11 roads covering 5.47 kilometres, along with the installation of drainage systems to address flooding issues faced by residents. Authorities stated that the development will improve accessibility and ease transportation on the island, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
