The Elections Commission has stated that there are no plans to extend voting hours for today’s nationwide elections.

Voting for the Local Council elections, Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections, and the public referendum began at 8:00 a.m. However, voting was delayed at 28 stations due to an insufficient number of officials. The issues were later resolved, with voting commencing by 9:00 a.m.

Despite the delays, the Commission confirmed that voting hours will not be extended, and queues will close at 4:00 p.m. as scheduled.

Officials noted that polling time would only be extended in the event of extraordinary circumstances, such as a natural disaster, in line with practices followed in recent elections. The Commission has urged voters to cast their ballots early and avoid waiting until the final hours.

A total of 294,876 people are eligible to vote in the polls. As of 12:00 p.m., 62,083 voters had already cast their ballots.
