People’s National Congress (PNC) candidate Ali Shamoon has secured the position of President of the Maafushi Council.

In the election held on Saturday, Shamoon, who currently serves as Vice President of the Maafushi Council, secured the council’s top post.

Maafushi has traditionally been regarded as a stronghold of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). The PNC candidate won the seat after contesting against incumbent council president Hassan Solah, who also ran on an MDP ticket in the election.

In addition to the presidency, the PNC also secured another seat on the Maafushi Council. Hamza Ahmed, who contested on a PNC ticket, was elected as a council member.
