Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam has met with the Maldives Seafood Processors and Exporters Association (MSPEA) to discuss challenges facing the fisheries sector amid rising global fuel prices.

The meeting, held on Thursday morning, brought together senior officials from the Ministry alongside representatives from the association.

Discussions focused on the difficulties faced by the fisheries industry due to increasing fuel prices in the global market, driven by ongoing instability in the Middle East. Participants engaged in extensive consultations on the impact of these challenges on fishing operations and the industry at large.

The Ministry also shared updates on measures being taken by the Government in response to concerns raised during a previous meeting with the association held on 10 March 2026.

In addition, information was provided on ongoing efforts by the Government to mitigate the negative impact of rising fuel costs on the sector.

Minister Shiyam expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation and support extended by stakeholders in the fisheries industry during this challenging period.
