The Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) has stated that students seeking to study abroad can independently obtain the required “Recognition of the Intended Programme” document free of charge.
In a statement, MQA noted that some third-party service providers have been charging significant fees to assist students in obtaining this recognition prior to pursuing studies overseas. It highlighted that complaints have also been received from students who, after using such services, faced delays in securing student visas and were unable to attend classes on time.
MQA clarified that students can apply for the “Recognition of the Intended Programme” themselves, either by submitting the request via email or by visiting the Authority in person.
The Authority further emphasised that there is no requirement to pay any fee to obtain this document.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development has decided to expand opportunities for students interested in technical fields. As part of this initiative, at least 50 per cent of the loans issued annually under the Government’s student loan scheme will be allocated to technical disciplines.
In addition, a special policy governing the application process for student loans, both within the Maldives and abroad for higher education and training, has now been gazetted.
