Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu has announced that dedicated sessions will be conducted to familiarise associations and clubs with the newly launched Sportsgate portal, aimed at streamlining communication and documentation within the sports sector.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the President’s Office, Minister Rafiu said the sessions will be organised through the Commissioner of Sports to ensure stakeholders are able to effectively use the platform. He emphasised the importance of early familiarisation, noting that the application’s services are expected to be fully rolled out within a week.

The Sportsgate portal, launched by the Ministry of Sports on March 31, is designed to digitally manage communications between sports associations, clubs and the Commissioner of Sports, while securely storing documents without risk of loss. The minister noted that the system is more user-friendly than previous software and aligns with the Government’s Maldives 2.0 digitalisation vision.

Minister Rafiu said the development of the platform was driven in part by challenges faced in upgrading functions in the earlier system, adding that the new portal is intended to improve efficiency and accessibility across the sector. He also provided updates on ongoing initiatives, including the national beach handball team’s training programme in Thailand ahead of the Beach Games in China scheduled for April 22.

Highlighting recent achievements, the minister noted that Maldivian athletes secured seven medals at the South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship, reflecting continued progress in international sports competitions.
