Member of Parliament Hassan Zareer has stated that the Government has significantly reduced the impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East on the Maldives through measures taken under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
Speaking on MMTV’s Bodu Khabaru programme, Zareer said that despite fluctuations in global oil prices due to the conflict, fuel prices in the Maldives have remained relatively stable.
He noted that even major economies have struggled to manage rising oil and gas prices, while the Maldives has been able to maintain price stability despite its limited natural resources.
Zareer added that the Administration is prioritising efforts to keep the prices of essential goods at a stable level.
Responding to criticism from the opposition regarding the state of the economy, he alleged that such claims are aimed at creating unrest and misleading the public ahead of the 2028 presidential election.
The Government has introduced several measures to manage costs and ensure continued access to basic necessities amid global uncertainties. Authorities said the State Trading Organization (STO) has worked to stabilise the prices of essential commodities, while fuel prices supplied by Fuel Supply Maldives (FSM) have been kept unchanged.
The Government has also assured that cost-control measures will not disrupt essential services provided to the public.
