A temporary building will be constructed on the premises of the council’s public services department to accommodate the operations of two key city council divisions: the Land and Building Department and the Vital and Registration Department.
The decision was made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu following the aftermath of the fire that engulfed and left the building housing major Government ministries significantly damaged. The project was commissioned at the Government’s expense and will be fast-tracked under the directive of the President. The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, and the Malé City Council were tasked with completing the office within a two-week timeframe.
This rapid response ensures continuity of essential municipal services while permanent arrangements are being made.
Deputy Mayor Nareesh on the behalf of the Mayor, alongside council members, officers, and employees, has expressed gratitude for the decision.
Further updates on the council’s long-term infrastructure plans are anticipated.
